And should he get the job, his first signing could be Chelsea captain John Terry, who is out of contract at the end of the season, reports .

Following him to Wales could be Lampard. His contract with New York City has ended and he is a free agent. He has also expressed a desire to continue playing until the end of the season.

Swansea have conceded more goals, 41, than any other team in the Premier League. And while Terry may not be getting any younger at 36, his experience could prove vital for a relegation scrap.

Speaking to yesterday, Redknapp threw his hat into the ring for the Swansea job.

He said: “It sounds interesting – it sounds a challenge.

“Swansea are a good club and it would be a tough challenge, but a good challenge.

“It’s a great club – where they’ve come from and what they’ve done, and the atmosphere there is absolutely fantastic.

“It’s a tough job for someone but it’s not an impossible one – I still think they’ve got a chance of staying up.

“It’s going to be tight, but they’ve still got a chance.”

Wales boss Chris Coleman and former Manchester United and Wales legend Ryan Giggs are the early favourites for the job.

But with Redknapp's history of dragging clubs clear from the relegation trapdoor, his experience could prove him a worthy contender.

SunSport revealed yesterday how Roy Hodgson has emerged as the strong candidate to land the Swansea job.

But Swansea’s American majority owners Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan have an open mind over who to appoint next.
