Just when you thought football had turned the corner with prejudice and discrimination issues comments like this just drag the game back through the mud.

Women's football has grown massively in the last few years, with teams and players being included on the Fifa video game as well as more interest and coverage of the Women's Super League.

Potter plays for Notts County Ladies who finished sixth the FA WSL as Manchester City ran away with the title unbeaten winning 13 out of 16 matches.

The 32 year old took to Twitter to air her disgust at the ordeal, Potter has played for eight clubs including Arsenal in their heyday when they would seep all the honours on offer.

She had three spells at Birmingham City after starting her career in 1999 with Chesterfield, so for a woman to have played and given so much to the sport to be treated in such a way is a travesty.

The midfielder has played 24 times for England scoring on three occasions, in a career that has spanned nearly two decades at the top level of the women's game.

She has had a career that will hopefully inspire many other young girls to get involved in football, her career has been one that many 'men' could wish to have had.
