Chelsea news: Blues appeal over John Terry’s FA Cup red card rejected by the FA and he will serve one-game ban

JOHN TERRY will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect after Chelsea's appeal for his red card against Peterborough was unsuccessful.

An Independent Regulatory Commission found the skipper's clumsy foul on Posh striker Lee Angol in the FA Cup third round tie last weekend was denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.

The game finished 4-1 to the Blues at Stamford Bridge - and long-serving former England captain Terry had no need to make the tackle with the score already at 3-0, on his 50th FA Cup start for his club.

As Angol raced towards goal, Terry clipped him to send him tumbling over the legs of the defender, instantly appealing to referee Kevin Friend for leniency - but it fell on deaf ears.

After the game, he wrote on : "What a great feeling being back on the pitch today, albeit only for 67 mins after my red card which I will be appealing and hope the FA and the ref will look at it and realise I didn't touch Lee Angol."

Terry will now serve a one match ban for their Premier League trip to champions Leicester on January 14 - but the former guaranteed starter now settles for a bit-part role at the Bridge.

The 36-year-old, who signed a one year extension in the summer, had not played since November before the Peterborough match - and has only started five matches all season.
