Lingard was on £30,000 a week and the club had offered to double that.

Now they have returned with improved terms that the player and his representatives have agreed to.

SunSport revealed in September that both parties wanted to commit to each other.

The 24-year-old Warrington born academy graduate has just 18 months left on his current contract and the club were keen that did not to stretch into the final 12 months.

Lingard had loan moves to Leicester, Birmingham, Brighton and Derby before finally establishing himself in the United first team last season when he made 33 starts under Louis van Gaal.

He has followed that up this season with another 12 plus six as substitutes despite strong competition for the wide places behind the lone striker.

Lingard also has three England caps.

The news of Lingard finally agreeing terms comes a day after United confirmed they had triggered the extra year in Marouane Fellaini’s contract taking him to the end of next season.

He had signed a four-year-deal with the option for an extra year.

Despite problems for the big Belgian since moving to Old Trafford, including his own fans booing him, Mourinho has faith in the midfielder.

Many fans have turned too not least when he scored the second in United’s 2-0 EFL semi-final first leg victory over Hull City on Tuesday night.
