The Hammers have been moved to place a security guard next to a mural of the player as rumours swirled that angry fans were set to vandalise it.

Some more extreme talk suggested that fans would also try and damage a banner that hangs from the roof of the London Stadium.

Despite Payet missing the game against Crystal Palace - Payet telling manager Slaven Bilic he would feign injury to get out of the match - West Ham fans are keen to make their feelings known.

Fans on the popular forum 'Knees Up Mother Brown' have come up with a song they intend to sing at the match.

And it's not flattering.

Payet, who is the club's highest-paid player on £125,000-a-week, was previously their favourite song.

But many fans now want the club to sell him.

The lyrics go: "F*** off Payet,

"Dimitri Payet,

"We just don't want you anymore,

"You've got some f***ing front,

"You money-grabbing c***,

"F*** off Dimitri Payet!"

West Ham vice-Chairman Karren Brady says she expects Payet, who is linked with Marseille and Chelsea, to leave the club.

She wrote in her SunSport column: "With this attitude I suppose that probably sooner rather than later he will be on his way.

"We have already made him our highest-paid player but there has been plenty of evidence recently of his lost motivation.

"We will carry on trying to keep him, of course, but his attitude will affect the whole team unless it changes radically."
