ALL GO FOR JOE

Wolves 1 Aston Villa 0: Joe Mason bundles in winner to dent Villa play-off hopes

Shot-shy visitors fail to ruffle fast-improving Wolves as Molineux hails Graham Taylor, the man who bossed both teams

JOE MASON fired the 16th minute goal that proved the deciding factor between two of Graham Taylor’s old clubs.

Mason drove his shot hard in to the ground shot and the ball bounced over the hand of Villa keeper Sam Johnstone after Nouha Dicko had fashioned a great opening down his right to pull the ball back from the byline for Mason to finish.

Wolves took the game by the scruff of the neck for long periods with Nouha Dicko smashing a shot into the legs of Johnstone and Matt Doherty appealing for a penalty after a set-to with Alan Hutton.

Ross McCormack had Villa’s best chance, powering a header over the top from a Jordan Amavi cross as their play-off hopes took another turn for the worse.
