Any potential move would cost around £10million – but wantaway Sakho could be used as part of the deal.

He cost Liverpool £18m when he joined from PSG in 2013 but has been left out under Klopp.

Sakho has been forced to train with the reserves and said he was “disgusted” by his treatment.

Any potential move to Merseyside would see Fonte reunited with four of his former team-mates.

Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren have all moved from Southampton to the Kop boys in recent years.
