Birmingham City transfer news: Blues set to make a move for Swansea winger Wayne Routledge who wants to move

Swansea boss Paul Clement is making changes to his squad and the Blues are looking to take advantage of the upheaval with a bid for the much travelled winger

BIRMINGHAM CITY are planning a move for Swansea winger Wayne Routledge, SunSport understands.

New Blues boss Gianfranco Zola is looking to freshen up his squad this month as the second city outfit try to haul themselves back into the promotion play-off picture.

Blues are set to submit a bid of around £3million for the experienced winger who is open to leaving the Premier League strugglers despite making 20 appearances and scoring two goals this season.

However, Routledge could find his opportunities limited with the arrival of new boss Paul Clement who will have his own ideas of how the Swans beat the drop.

The 32-year-old career looked to be drifting after short speall at Fulham, Aston Villa, QPR and Newcastle.

Routledge who came through the Crystal Palace academy looked to have found a home in South Wales and became a more consistent performer under the guidance of former boss Brendan Rodgers.

With Jacques Maghoma on African Cup of Nations duty and Greg Stewart out injured, Zola is desperate to add a wide man in the window.

The winger has 18 months left on his current deal and Birmingham are keen to offer an extension if he is prepared to drop down a league to aid Zola's bid for promotion.
