Ched Evans: Chesterfield striker extends contract by another 12 months after impressing at League One side

CHED EVANS has agreed a new contract keeping him at Chesterfield until 2018.
The Welsh striker joined the League One side in June on a one-year deal and has found the back of the net seven times in 24 appearances.
Chesterfield’s move for Evans was a controversial one after the 28-year-old had initially been found guilty in 2012 of raping a 19-year-old woman at a hotel.
Evans ended up serving half of a five-year prison sentence before seeing his conviction squashed last April, and he was eventually found not guilty at a retrial in October.
But Evans’ football career has been resurrected at struggling Chesterfield, who are set to make former Coventry City gaffer Tony Mowbray their next boss.
He scored his first goal since being cleared of rape in the FA Cup tie against Colchester last November.
And ex-Man City youngster Evans admits he’s delighted to be extending his stay with the club.

He said: “I’m really pleased to have got this sorted out. I want to play well and score as many goals as I can between now and the end of the season to help us get out of the relegation zone.”
Director of football Chris Turner added: “Ched is a quality player so it’s great news for everyone at the club. It was always out intention to trigger the 12-month extension to the contract he agreed in the summer.”
