Sergio Busquets injures ligaments after shock tackle in Barcelona’s win against Eibar
The Barca midfielder will undergo tests to see the extent of the damage to his ankle after being on the receiving end of mistimed challenge
SERGIO BUSQUETS had to be carried off on a stretcher after just eight minutes during Barcelona's La Liga win over Eibar.
The midfielder came off worse in a 50-50 challenge with Escalante who misjudged the position of the ball and planted his foot into Busquets' ankle.
The Spaniard collapsed to the floor crippled with pain as his ankle twisted at an awkward ankle as players feared the worse.
Barca tweeted that Busquets will undergo tests on Monday to discover the extent of the injury.
But the club did confirm that the Spain international had sprained some external ligaments.
The Spanish champions cruised to a 4-0 win after Busquets was carried off, with his replacement Denis Suarez giving Barca the lead on the 31 st minute as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez added to the opener, before Neymar hit the fourth in the 91st minute.
As soon as Busquets left the field Eibar enjoyed more of the ball and it took time for Barcelona to settle in to their usual rhythm before eventually taking the lead.
With important matches coming up in La Liga and the Champions League next month Luis Enrique will hoping Busquets can make a speedy recovery.
Paris Saint-Germain lie in wait in the last 16 of the Champions League and will be given a huge confidence boost if Busquets is not able to play.
