West Ham director, Lady Karren Brady, has now confirmed that the supporters can replace any shirts with Payet’s name on the back.

She confirmed the news on Twitter after a fan had complained he had wasted £60 on a jersey with the French star printed on.

Stephen Lehan Port said: "Just wondered if the club had any plans re [sic] Payet shirts. I have £60 worth gathering dust!"

And Brady replied: "Bring back your Payet shirt to any of the club shops and you will get a new replacement for £25, full details on WHU [sic] web site today."

Not everyone was happy about the gesture.

A number of Hammers supporters thought it was not enough to compensate those out of pocket.

After Payet’s sale was completed, West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan released a statement on the club’s website criticising the midfielder.

He said: "The club would like to place on record its sincere disappointment that Dimitri Payet did not show the same commitment and respect to West Ham United that the club and fans showed him, particularly when it rewarded him with a lucrative new five-and-a-half-year deal only last year."

And the club have already started to remove the memory of Payet from their London Stadium home.

A video emerged online this morning of his image being removed from the outskirts of the ground.
