CHELSEA rejected Bournemouth's deadline day-approach for Nathan Ake.

The Cherries made a last-ditch £18million bid for the Dutch defender, 21, who has spent the first half of the season on loan at Dean Court.

Eddie Howe said: "We had discussions with Chelsea about bringing him back on loan or permanently. They were denied."

Meanwhile, Marc Wilson has joined West Brom on loan until the end of the season.

Ake returned to Stamford Bridge earlier this month to rejoin Antonio Conte's league-leaders.

He was not part of Chelsea's squad for their 1-1 draw at Anfield as talks over his future were ongoing.

But it appears Ake is set to stay with his parent club after Howe revealed his failed bid for the young centre-back, who scored three goals in ten Premier League appearances for Bournemouth.

Ake's arrival means Conte has a depth of defenders to deploy in his three-at-the-back formation.

“Sometimes there’s nothing you can do as a player. I started the first four games of the season and get injured and we lose at home to Liverpool and Arsenal away and the manager is asking ‘how long till you are back?’

“And then we go 13 games unbeaten and you’re back fit but you can’t get in. And as a player it’s difficult to accept but you have to accept it.

“When you’ve got a manager like Conte who’s been honest with me from day one ‘listen you’re not getting back in the boys are playing great the team’s flying’, you haven’t got a leg to stand on.

“I genuinely mean when I say it, but for me I am honestly hoping I don’t play this season which means they keep winning."
