Carvalho only signed a new deal at the Primeira Liga side 12 months ago - after parting company with agent Jorge Mendes - with his release clause being introduced.

Since then, the midfielder has been without an agent - with Sporting rejecting a £20m bid from West Brom in August and January.

However, with the midfielder hoping to move on from Portugal to bigger and better things, he has linked up with Guardiola's agency.

The only stumbling block for Carvalho now appears to be Lisbon president Bruno de Carvalho - who refused him a new deal in the summer and is looking to make a small fortune out of his transfer.

However, after joining up with Guardiola - who also looks after Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta - he looks one step closer to escaping Portugal, with Man City the favourites to land his signature.
