WEST HAM bounced back from their miserable defeat to Manchester City by coming from behind to beat Southampton.

The Hammers wanted a big response after their 4-0 thrashing in midweek but things got off to the worst start possible when Manolo Gabbiadini lashed home his first goal for Southampton.

But instead of buckling, Slaven Bilic's side hit back straight away as Andy Carroll scored his fourth goal in four games, before Pedro Obiang fired them in front late in the first half.

And they made certain of a morale-boosting win when Mark Noble's free-kick deflected past Fraser Forster as Saints feel to a disappointing home defeat.

FACTS, STATS, GOALS AND LOLS

  • Saints's pre-match music - their own rendition of My Way, sorry, We Are Southampton - is just awful. Please stop playing it.
  • Manolo Gabbiadini looks the real deal. Frozen out at Napoli but took his chance to shine and slammed home a spectacular opening goal.

  • West Ham are still all at sea at the back. The arrival of Jose Fonte has done little to beef up their defence and they still look vulnerable.
  • And Southampton were even worse. Andy Carroll was allowed too much space to slot home on 14 minutes.
  • Fraser Forster's one-man crusade to stop West Ham from scoring against him is over. It lasted for 347 minutes.

  • Sofiane Feghouli is becoming one of West Ham's key players. The Algerian's career at the Hammers started slowly but is now up to speed with the Premier League.
  • How is Maya Yoshida still playing in the Premier League? The Japanese defender made some horrendous attempts to clear the ball and looked a liability.
  • And SIX journalists had travelled all the way from Japan to watch him.

  • Pedro Obiang's first goal for West Ham gave them thew lead, and he won't score a sweeter one. This was a peach.
  • Southampton's defending for Mark Noble's free-kick, and West Ham's third, was awful. They looked good going forward, but so poor in defence.
