EFL Cup final: Andre Marriner appointed to referee Wembley clash between Manchester United and Southampton

ANDRE MARRINER has been appointed to referee the EFL Cup final.

The Brummie whistler has reffed one major final previously but will take charge of the Wembley clash between Manchester United and Southampton on February 26.

Aston Villa fan Marriner has one of the lowest fouls-per-game ratios in the Premier League this season, giving just 20 per match.

The 46-year-old has only dished out one red card and 67 yellows in 18 games.

Richard West and Stuart Burt will be his assistants, with Kevin Friend the fourth official.

He previously refereed the 2013 FA Cup final when Wigan clinched a famous win over Manchester City.
