LIVERPOOL are facing a battle with Manchester United in their attempts to sign Nottingham Forest starlet Ben Brereton.
The Anfield club have been keeping tabs on the highly-rated striker for the past six months and had been hopeful of tempting him to Merseyside.
But now rivals United have also been alerted to Brereton's potential and have also shown their interest in taking him to Old Trafford.

Liverpool have earmarked the 17-year-old as one to bring into their flourishing system of youngsters - and failed with a £2.5million approach for him last month.
And they are desperate to keep themselves ahead of United in the hunt for a player who has long caught the eye in Academy football.
Brereton grabbed the headlines at the weekend when he scored his first goal in senior football with the stoppage time winner as Forest beat Aston Villa.
But Forest already know they are facing a difficult task to keep hold a their promising youngster with Premier League clubs already circling.
The Championship club do not want to sell, but know from bitter experience how hard it is to keep hold of a talented player - having lost winger Oliver Burke to Red Bull Leipzig last summer.
Burke, 19, was the first of a group of highly-rated young players to come through the system at the City Ground, along with Brereton and Matty Cash.
