Out of Shaw's last seven starts for Manchester United, three of them have come in this competition.

His only appearance since the end of November was the FA Cup win over Wigan Athletic late January.

However Mourinho has made it clear that the former Southampton man will not be in his starting XI against the French side.

The United boss said: "He’s not playing on Thursday. Why? Because my team is playing well and I am happy with my back-four. I’m going to repeat Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Blind."

Shaw will join fellow England stars Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones and Michael Carrick on the sidelines as United begin a hectic run of fixtures.

Mourinho then followed on to say: "Phil is still recovering from the injury from Wigan match."

"With Wayne and Carrick I don’t want to say injuries because I don’t think we are speaking about injuries."

"We’re speaking about little muscular problems and protection of these problems."
"So all three are out tomorrow. Apart from that everything is right."
