They tweeted: "Same again next year", complete with two scorelines showing the 5-1 drubbing on the big screen of the Allianz Arena.

The message harks back to Bayern's seemingly annual demolition of Arsenal, who dread drawing the German side year on year, only to go on and invariably lose.

They wrote: “Beating @Arsenal to their XI tweet” – before reeling off the Gunners’ starting line-up ahead of the hotly anticipated match at the Allianz Arena.

But just two minutes later, the Premier League side duly obliged with their own team news tweet to their millions of followers.

And it wasn't the first time Bayern have trolled Arsenal – in December ahead of the draw for this last 16 game, the German side predicted on Twitter that they would face the Gunners.

After finishing top of Group A, Arsene Wenger wanted to avoid the Bundesliga champions – who have knocked them out in all of their Champions League knockout meetings.

And the Bundesliga side wasted no time in smugly reminding everyone they knew it all along, writing: “Should we just book our travel to London now”.

Well they have their travel booked to London for the return leg in early March - and it is sure to be a relaxing flight.
