Marquinhos set to sign four-year contract with PSG: Brazilian defender turns down interest from Chelsea and Barcelona

The 22-year-old centre-back Marquinhos starred in 4-0 win over Barca and is now set to extend his stay in Paris to 2021

ONE of the best weeks in Paris Saint-Germain's history looks set to get even better after centre-back Marquinhos reportedly agreed to extend his stay at the club.

According to , the Brazilian is set to sign a new contract to 2021 at the Parc des Princes.

Marquinhos was a summer target for Barcelona and his decision to remain at the side who thumped them 4-0 in the Champions League will no doubt add insult to injury for the Catalans.

The 22-year-old joined for £26m from Roma in 2013 and also attracted interest from Chelsea.

He was one of the top five most expensive defenders of all time, before Manchester City snapped up John Stones from Everton for £47.5m.

But things aren't all rosy for the Parisians, as the club may have to make cutbacks in other positions to meet their Financial Fair Play targets for next season.

PSG beat Arsenal to the £34m signing of Julian Draxler in January and also added Benfica winger Goncalo Guedes for £25m.

And Marquinhos was talked about as one of a number of players the club may have to offload in order to make up for those extravagant purchases.

But with the Brazilian now set to stay, players such as Marco Verratti, Adrien Rabiot, Blaise Matuidi, Javier Pastore and Hatem Ben Arfa may have to go.
