Sutton fans invade the pitch at Gander Green Lane after Arsenal win memorable FA Cup tie

SUTTON supporters raided the 3G pitch at Gander Green Lane after watching their side lose to Arsenal in the FA Cup fifth round.

The non league side gave a good account of themselves in the 2-0 defeat as Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott scored the decisive goals.

With supporters on the pitch, police and stewards worked together to remove fans off of the field.

During the match fans tried making it as hostile as possible for their Premier League visitors and even threw a yellow flare from the terraces.

But it did not faze Arsenal's XI, which included Walcott and Granit Xhaka while Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on from the bench.

Arsene Wenger was thrilled with his players for remaining focused and avoiding an embarrassing result.

The Gunners boss said: “If we were not mentally prepared we would not have gone through today.

“I didn’t enjoy it. We just had to do the job.

“Give Sutton credit. Every mistake technically they took advantage of it.

“On this pitch every little technical movement which is not 100 per cent you lose the ball. They played well. They played better than I thought. They are basically in Division Five. When I arrived here 20 years ago, teams in Division Five were not as fit as they are.

“They didn’t drop physically at all.

“They remained absolutely focused and organised and had huge desire in their game.”
