Valencia 2 Real Madrid 1: West Ham flop Simone Zaza’s stunning goal blows La Liga title race wide open as Cristiano Ronaldo fails to prevent defeat with goal in his 700th professional appearance

Zaza's incredible half volley and goal from Fabian Orellana ensure Ronaldo's bullet header is no more than a consolation

LA LIGA's title race has been blown wide open by one of the Premier League's biggest flops.

West Ham fans will hardly believe it when they see a video of Simone Zaza's sensational half volley in the 4th minute.

And a brilliant counter-attack made it 2-0 after just nine minutes.

From a Real Madrid set piece, Fabian Orellana ran through on goal and fired a tame shot at Navas, who seemed to almost dive out of the way.

Cristiano Ronaldo had something to celebrate in his 700th professional appearance when he scored a trademark bullet header on the stroke of half time.

But not even the Ballon d'Or winner was able to prevent Valencia taking home the points.

Bernabeu boss Zinedine Zidane fumed at his side's slow start to the match, saying: "The truth is we lost the game in 10 minutes.

"We started well with the ball, we had chances but we made two errors and they scored two goals.

"We had 80 minutes to rescue the game and tried but we lacked many things today.

And he was fully aware that the loss means Real Madrid remain just one point ahead of Barcelona.

Los Blancos still have a game in hand, but a first title in five years seems much less of a foregone conclusion than it did before tonight.

Zizou commented: "We had the chance to pick up points and we didn't do it. I hope this has no psychological effect on us.

"We need to be more focused in future games because if you don't concentrate you get punished.

"In those [first] 10 minutes we weren't clever or ready."
