Liverpool’s former goalkeeper Doni claims Claudio Ranieri ‘got what he deserved’ following Leicester sacking

Doni was frozen out by Ranieri at Roma and couldn't be happier to see Leicester give him the boot

FORMER Liverpool goalkeeper Doni has gone against the tide of popular opinion with his views on Claudio Ranieri.

While the likes of Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp have spoken out against Leicester's decision to sack their manager, the Brazilian has given it his full support.

"The lie can only obscure [the facts] for a short time, then the truth arrives."

The goalkeeper's dislike of Ranieri dates back to their time at Roma together.

He had spent four years playing regularly in the Italian capital before the future Premier League winner arrived as boss in 2009.

Following Ranieri's appointment, he was made backup to fellow Brazilian Julio Sergio and only played 23 league games in two years before moving to Anfield.

Leicester are expected to move quickly to hire a new boss, with former Foxes striker Roberto Mancini the favourite.

But Mancini this morning spoke out against the sacking of his fellow Italian and claimed he had had no contact with the club.

He said: “The team was going through a delicate time but what he did last year is incredible.

“He could have made them avoid relegation.

"This year everything has gone against them the way last year everything went for them.

"I'm afraid in England the clubs are picking up some of our bad Italian habits."
