The United boss is a big admirer of the former Arsenal man. While in charge at Chelsea in 2014 he signed Fabregas for £30million, and the midfielder was instrumental in the title-winning side that season.

The Spaniard was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford under former boss David Moyes in 2013, but decided to stay at the Nou Camp for another season.

The Portuguese will have his work cut out trying to do business with his former club, despite the sale of Juan Mata to United in 2014 under very different circumstances.
