Mowbray said: “We’ve got the points and that’s all that matters. We will play better but showed we can dig in. Gallagher’s persistence won the penalty and Craig smashed it in. That was a beautiful sight.”
Derby’s Tom Ince went close twice with fierce efforts but Rovers woke up as Marvin Emnes and Gallagher tested Scott Carson.
Ince also shot at keeper Jason Steele late on and Bradley Johnson clipped the bar with a header.
Rams boss Steve McClaren said: “We shouldn’t have lost.
“We had 18 attempts but only two on target.”
