Iker Casillas breaks legend Paolo Maldini’s record for most European appearances after starting for Porto on Tuesday
Spanish stopper has now featured in 175 Champions League and Europa League matches, overtaking Italian defender
IKER CASILLAS made history in Porto's 1-0 loss at the hands of Juventus on Tuesday night, breaking Paolo Maldini's European appearance record.
The former Real Madrid man, 35, was between the sticks as his side crashed out of the Champions League in the last-16 3-0 on aggregate against the Italian giants.
But in stepping out onto the pitch, he notched his 175th appearance in European football - eclipsing the 174 set by Italy and AC Milan legend Maldini.

Casillas of course spent the first 16 years of his incredible career in Madrid.
During his time at the Bernabeu, the Spaniard won the Champions League three times - with their La Decima success his last taste of glory back in 2014.
Also on the European front, Casillas won a pair of Super Cup trophies before his move to Portuguese giants Porto.
Following his start, the Champions League congratulated the goalkeeper on Instagram, saying: "@fcporto keeper @ikercasillas has overtaken Paolo Maldini atop the all-time UEFA club matches leaderboard."
Elsewhere, fellow legendary European goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has revealed the one team he would hate to face in the Champions League quarter-finals... Leicester.
Buffon said: “The only team I’d like to avoid in the draw is Leicester.
"They have got enthusiasm, they know how to hurt the strongest teams.
"We'd have everything to lose against them."
