The Black Cats are without Victor Anichebe who is out with an MCL injury.
Steven Pienaar, Jan Kirchhoff, Duncan Watmore, Paddy McNair and Lee Cattermole are also currently injured.
Burnley
Johann Berg Gudmundsson is still out but Steven Defour could feature for the Clarets.
Dean Marney is sidelined for a while with knee ligament damage while Kevin Long is also a doubt for the game.
