Butland last featured in a game for Stoke on March 19 2016, in a 2-1 win over Watford and since his injury the 'keeper's spot has been shared by Shay Given and Lee Grant.
Grant was initially loaned by the Potters and made 15 appearances, before he signed permanently in January.
Butland is now hoping to be back in action before the end of the season after suffering numerous setbacks.
He told Soccer AM: "Hopefully [I'll be back] before the end of the season, there's no reason why not.
"I'm feeling really good and things are progressing really well at the minute, and I'm hoping to get some game time, whether it be behind close doors or in an Under-23s game.
"Hopefully within a month I'll be getting near a Premier League pitch again."
