Bristol City 2 QPR 1: Robins ease relegation fears with comfortable win over Ian Holloway’s R’s

Lee Johnson's side are now four points clear of the drop zone thanks to goals from Marlon Pack and Jamie Paterson

LEE JOHNSON is still looking over his shoulder despite the Robins edging closer to safety.

The Bristol City boss was delighted after his relegation-threatened side’s fourth win in six games.

But he said: “Nothing’s done yet. We have to keep the hammer down. It’s not over until it’s over.

“We know how tough the Championship is. If you rest on your laurels, you get found out.”

Impressive midfielder Marlon Pack opened the scoring in the 14th minute with his second goal of the season.

Winger Josh Brownhill whipped in a cross from the right and Matty Taylor knocked the ball back to Pack, who volleyed home from the edge of the box.

Five minutes before the break Pack and Taylor linked up again to make it 2-0.

Pack picked out Taylor with a pass from his own half.

The striker split the defence to give winger Jamie Paterson the time to stroke the ball past helpless keeper Alex Smithies from 12 yards.

QPR’s Idrissa Sylla grabbed an injury-time consolation when he bundled home a cross from just six yards out.

Rangers lost their fourth game on the bounce and furious boss Ian Holloway blasted: “Where was the urgency? I’ve just absolutely ripped their faces off.

“They didn’t have to work for their goals. The first was absolutely pathetic. We went out like a wet firework.

“We still need another win to be safe and have done for the last four games.”

Former City midfielder Luke Freeman went close to levelling at 1-1 but keeper Frank Fielding did well to get down and save his low 14-yard drive

In the 63rd minute Matt Smith kept R’s in the game when he nodded Aden Flint’s goal-bound header off his line.

City kept pressing and in the 79th minute midfielder Korey Smith played a long ball over the defence to find Brownhill but he snatched at his shot and fired over the bar.
