Leyton Orient to hold ANOTHER protest against owner Francesco Becchetti at last home game of season as staff STILL not paid
Game against Colchester on 29 April is likely to be their last before likely relegation to non-league for the first time in their long history
LEYTON ORIENT fans will hold another protest against owner Francesco Becchetti before their final home game of the season.
The game against Colchester on 29 April is likely to be their last before likely relegation to non-league for the first time in their long history, barring a footballing miracle.
The League 2 crisis club are seven points from safety with three games to go, largely down to the ownership of loathed Italian Becchetti, who has not paid players and club staff for two months.
Orient were also served a winding-up order in March for an unpaid tax bill, which has been paid – but there are still a number of people owed money.
Becchetti pledged to put a further £1million into the club to cover costs, but that money has not yet materialised.
Hundreds of angry O's fans invaded the pitch following the 2-1 home win against fellow strugglers Hartlepool United on Easter Monday which kept their survival dream alive for another week.
The organisers of the protest, the Leyton Orient Fans Trust, said in a statement: “We, the fans, will not let our football club die.
“And that no matter what the inaction of the football authorities in what is happening at Leyton Orient, this club will go on and recover because it is the fans' club.”
Taking place in the park outside their Brisbane Road stadium before kick-off, the rally will be attended by Leyton MP John Cryer, who is trying to get a debate in parliament about harmful ownership of football clubs.
It comes as Orient staff made a statement hitting out at the running of the club – with a fundraising page set up by a fan to try and help the unpaid employees nearly at £2,000.
