Former England ace Ugo Ehiogu rushed to hospital after suffering heart attack at Tottenham’s training ground

Ex-defender was coaching Spurs' Under-23 team when he suffered a cardiac arrest

FORMER ENGLAND ace Ugo Ehiogu has been rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack at Tottenham's training ground.

The 44-year-old, who is currently coach of Spurs' Under-23 side, collapsed at Hotspur Way today and received immediate medical attention.

He was then transferred to hospital by ambulance after receiving instant treatment from Spurs' medical staff.

His wife and son have been informed of the news and remain by his side.

Ehiogu enjoyed a playing career at the highest level having represented Aston Villa and Middlesbrough over 350 times and earning four England caps.

Tottenham released a statement on Twitter confirming the sad news that read: "We can confirm that Ugo Ehiogu is currently in hospital after collapsing at our Training Centre earlier today.

"Our Under-23's coach received immediate treatment on site from our medical staff before being transferred to hospital by ambulance.

"Everyone at the Club sends their best wishes to Ugo and his family. We shall continue to provide updates when we have further information."

Ehiogu began his playing career at West Brom before Ron Atkinson signed him for Midland rivals Aston Villa for £40,000 in 1991.

He was part of the Villa side that won the 1996 League Cup in a 3-0 victory over Leeds.

Ehiogu then became Middlesbrough's most expensive ever signing when he completed a £8million move to the Riverside in 2000.

He then enjoyed spells at Leeds on-loan, Rangers and Sheffield United before hanging up his boots.

The footballing world have come together to wish Ehiogu a speedy recovery.

Ex-Villa team-mate Stan Collymore wrote on Twitter: "Wish a great lad and great coach a speedy recovery. Get well soon @UgoEhiogu, thinking of you pal!"
