Matic ran onto an Eden Hazard pass 10 yards outside the box before smashing it with his left foot.
The thunderbolt of a shot flew at an average speed 68.43 mph before crashing in off the underside of the bar in under a second.
Hugo Lloris could only look on helplessly.
It was the icing on the cake of a thriller of a semi final that few of the 86,000 fans in attendance will quickly forget.
Tottenham came back from behind twice before Antonio Conte brought on the magical Eden Hazard to put the tie to bed.
The little Belgian scored before setting up Matic for the winning goal within minutes in the second half.
It was Matic’s only shot on goal, although he had the highest pass completion rate of any Chelsea player at 87%.
The 28-year old Serb said after the game: "It was a nice goal! But first of all I want to say I am very happy for the team, that we're going to play in the final.
"It's great when you have a chance to play in this stadium. For our supporters, you can see this is something special. To have a chance to win this trophy is significant for us as players."
Chelsea have now reached their seventh FA Cup final since the year 2000 and will play either Arsenal or Manchester City on May 27.
