MANCHESTER UNITED have emerged as favourites to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier, SunSport understands.
The full-back has already held initial talks with United boss Jose Mourinho and has made it clear he wants a summer switch to Old Trafford.
United have moved ahead of Manchester City and Barcelona, and will push to wrap up the £20million deal, stealing a march on their rivals.
PSG have been fighting to keep hold of the 24-year-old defender, who has lost his place in the starting line up to Belgian Thomas Meunier.
Aurier has two years left to run on his current deal, and the French champions have offered him a lucrative new contract to stay in Paris.
A French source revealed:"Serge has been offered a new deal to stay with PSG, but he wants to move to England and his preference is Manchester United and Jose Mourinho.
"United are a big club and Serge is impressed and excited with the plans for the future, some big players will be at Old Trafford next season."
Aurier has caused controversy in recent years. He was suspended by PSG after making offensive comments towards then manager Laurent Blanc and team-mate Angel Di Maria on social media.
He was then convicted of assaulting a police offer and was denied entry into the UK for the French side's Champions League clash with Arsenal last year.
Antonio Valencia has been a hit at right-back this season, but the United boss wants a viable alternative to the Ecuadorian.
Ashley Young has deputised at full-back, and Matteo Darmian has also played his part, but the Italian defender's Old Trafford future looks uncertain.
