Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic begins long rehabilitation after undergoing successful knee surgery and injury that is ‘not career ending’
Swede is expected to be sidelined for nine months after picking up ligament damage but injury in 'not career ending'
ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC has undergone successful knee surgery and has started his rehabilitation.
The crocked Manchester United star is facing nine months on the sidelines after picking up a serious knee injury in the Europa League win over Anderlecht last month.
At the age of 35, it threatened to end the Swede's stunning career which has seen him play for the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
But according to RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, Ibrahimovic's injury is not 'career ending'.
In a tweet he wrote: "#Ibrahimovic has undergone successful knee surgery. He has not suffered a career ending injury.
"Ibrahimovic has started rehabilitation."
United boss Jose Mourinho has already backed his striker to make a full recovery after labelling him a 'fighter.'
But it looks increasingly likely that the veteran has played his last game for the club.
Ibrahimovic is out of contract in the summer and reportedly has lucrative deals on the table from the MLS.
He also turned down a £13million offer by United to pay him whilst he undergoes his recovery from injury.
When he signed for United last summer, Ibra signed a one-year deal worth £250,000 a week, with an option for a further year if both sides agreed.
As it is, the board gave the thumbs-up to trigger the extra year in any case as an act of loyalty to the player who has given them so much this season. It is testament to the man that he turned down the offer.
