BARCELONA have failed in their attempts to convince Monaco star Kylian Mbappe of joining them ahead of rivals Real Madrid.

The 18-year-old striker has burst on the scene this season thanks to a string of scintillating performances as his side dazzle in Europe.

A world-record fee of £110million is believed to be the cost of signing Mbappe, but that hasn't warned off his potential suitors.

According to Spanish news outlet Don Balon, the Catalan club have held initial transfer talks with the teenager, but linking up with Lionel Messi is not something high on his list.

The report adds that he idolises Portuguese maestro Cristiano Ronaldo and wants to work under Zidane.
