The Portuguese confirmed Romero will play over De Gea, one of the best keepers in the world but whose future looks to lie back in his Spanish homeland next season.

Mourinho said: "No dilemma. They are two fantastic goalkeepers. I never saw in all my career two goalkeepers to be such friends.

"Because it’s a position where you always have a bit of rivalry, especially if you are a goalkeeper of the same kind of level.

"We are speaking about the Argentina national goalkeeper and the Spain national goalkeeper. They are so friendly. I never saw a bad face.

"I think it’s fair that Sergio is going to play in the final and David accepts that.

Especially because he has already played the Europa League matches and in case we win the trophy David wins the trophy because he played three matches against Feyenoord and Fenerbahce (twice).

"If everything goes normal and we have no problems, Sergio in the final."

Should De Gea return to Real Madrid, Mourinho is looking to replace him with either Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak or AC Milan wonderkid Gianluigi Donnarumma.
