Harrup was due to become a free agent in the summer, after spending the whole season in the reserves, with no real sign of breaking into Mourinho's plans at any stage.

The United boss now turns his attention on the Europa League final in Sweden on Wednesday, a trophy the club have never won in their history.

A win in Stockholm against Ajax will see United qualify for the Champions League next season.
