Both clubs have been required to hand over information over the alleged illegal approach from Jurgen Klopp's side, but a full enquiry is not believed to be needed.

The Saints have reportedly upped their asking price to £75million for the former Celtic star, but they remain adamant they don't wish to sell their prized asset.

But van Dijk is keen on a move to Liverpool, and prefers to join them over rivals Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

If a move does materialise, he will become the SIXTH Southampton player to move to the 2005 Champions League winners in the last three years, with Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne Sadio Mane all making the switch.

The Dutch international recently fuelled speculation regarding his own future after uploading an Instagram post which suggested he is pondering his next move.
