Salah, 24, scored 15 goals and delivered 11 assists in Serie A last season...a far better return than two goals in 19 games for Chelsea in 2014 before being loaned to Fiorentina.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate to add the man who cost £12m when he left the Blues to his side having guided the club back to the Champions League.

He is also considering his defensive options after Liverpool had to bite the bullet on a deal for Southampton's Virgil van Dijk after the Saints contacted the Premier League with a tapping-up allegation.

Meanwhile, the Reds were also linked to Southampton midfielder Dusan Tadic at the weekend.
