TOTTENHAM have made an enquiry for Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, who lit up Ligue 1 last season.

But Spurs are not the only club after the central-midfielder with Roma having a £20million bid rejected last week, report the Mail.

It is not dead in the water for Roma, who are poised for more talks imminently - but the north London club are showing strong interest in the 25-year-old.

The high-energy midfielder had been a key target for Arsene Wenger, with the Frenchman even being  spotted in Nice with Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis as they looked to complete a deal.

But while Spurs could hijack their bitter rivals' bid for Seri with the incentive of Champions League football, they look to have missed out on Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa, who is likely to move to Juventus.

Seri is not the only Nice player Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen on, with the club hoping to sign right-back Ricardo Pereira as replacement for Manchester City-bound Kyle Walker.

The highly-rated 23-year-old Portuguese international has been on loan in France from Porto for the past two seasons.

Interest in French stars mainly comes from Tottenham’s new chief scout Steve Hitchen, who is an expert in spotting Ligue 1 talent.
