Willy Caballero could pick Newcastle AHEAD of Chelsea as agent confirms keeper is weighing up his next move
The 35-year-old was released by Manchester City, with Stamford Bridge the likely destination - but it could be St James' Park
CHELSEA have some competition in their bid to bring free agent Willy Caballero to Stamford Bridge - from Premier League new-boys Newcastle.
Caballero was released by Manchester City at the end of the season, and after selling Asmir Begovic to Brighton, he was earmarked to take over as Chelsea's sub keeper.
But Newcastle, who could be on the lookout for an experienced stopper, are believed to have thrown their hat in the ring.
Caballero's agent Adrian Faija told : "We have some offers from England, he wants to stay in England," Faija said.
"Newcastle is cold but pretty and the beaches in Brighton are beautiful as well and easily accessible from London.”
The Argentinian goalkeeper is also believed to be on the radar of Boca Juniors in his homeland.
But Faija insists that move is some way off yet.
He added: There isn't an offer from Boca.
"To analyse it, first, we need an offer.
"It needs be real first [before we consider a move to Buenos Aires]."
SunSport reported earlier today how Chelsea have made their first addition to the squad this summer, but will not make the announcement until July 1.
The report a deal has been agreed with the player, but the Premier League champions will hold off confirming until next month.
It was believed that this player was Caballero - but perhaps this is not the case.
