However, Berlusconi asked supporters to reconsider their anger, saying: “Put yourself in his shoes.

"He is an 18-year-old kid who has received a sensational £87million offer.

“That is not an easy problem for a kid to deal with."

However, Berlusconi did add he believes the Italian outfit will be able to keep hold of their star stopper.

He said: "I believe Milan could find a way to convince him to stay.”

Donnarumma is now set to stay at AC Milan at least for the 2017-18 season, even if that means he leaves on a free transfer next summer.

A host of European giants have been chasing the young stopper's signature this summer - including Real Madrid.

The La Liga champions reportedly offered the youngster an incredible £87m contract to join them in Spain.

Elsewhere, Juventus, Manchester United and Manchester City have expressed their interest in landing the most sought-after goalkeeper in Europe.

Should Real fail in their bid to bring Donnarumma to Spain, they are set to turn their attention to United's David De Gea or Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois.
