CHELSEA have insisted on buy-back clauses for Bertrand Traoe and Nathan Ake to avoid a repeat of their mistake when they sold Romelu Lukaku.

The Premier League champions are clearing their decks of squad players as they look to begin their summer spending next month.

Traore completed a £16million move to Lyon on Monday, while Bournemouth are looking to push through the signing of Ake as soon as they can.

Chelsea insisted on taking 15 per cent of any profit Lyon make if they sell Traore in the future before they gave their blessing to the move.

And they are pushing for a similar figure as they negotiate Ake's proposed £20m switch to Bournemouth.

Buy-back options are also part of the deals as Chelsea learn the error of their ways having failed to negotiate any terms when they sold Lukaku to Everton for £28m three years ago.

That mistake is set to cost them a fortune, with Everton insisting the club pay them £100m if they want to re-sign the Belgian striker.

Since they sold Lukaku in 2014, the new television deal has kicked in which has seen the cost of transfer fees soar to extraordinary levels.

And the Stamford Bridge board know they have been taught an expensive lesson having not protected themselves selling players in the past.

The club are about to begin their summer squad strengthening as they close in on the £35m signing of Monaco star Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The French midfielder is close to finalising his move to London, with Nemanja Matic freeing up space in the squad if he makes his £40m switch to Manchester United.

Ake's impending departure to Bournemouth, who he played for on loan last season, will pave the way for Chelsea to sign Alex Sandro.

Juventus are holding out for £61m for the Brazilian left-back but that deal is on the brink of being agreed and Sandro could sign by the end of next week.
