Manchester United set to make £100million bid for Everton’s Romelu Lukaku with Wayne Rooney going the other way

Striker is wanted by Chelsea but United are ready to use Rooney's return in their favour

MANCHESTER UNITED will use Wayne Rooney's Everton return to try and make a £100million move for Romelu Lukaku.

Roo will go back to Goodison Park 13 years after his £27million move to Old Trafford and it will be announced this week.

are reporting that United want to use his return to help them hijack Lukaku from Chelsea.

Lukaku is desperate to move away from the Toffees as he wants to play Champions League football.

Antonio Conte was in pole position to resign the big Belgian from the club he was sold from in a £28m deal in 2014.

But the Blues are being stifled in their attempts to launch a bid for Lukaku as Diego Costa refuses to move.

Conte told the Spanish international he was no longer wanted at Stamford Bridge and to find a new club.

Romelu Lukaku factfile

  • Romelu Lukaku was born on May 13 1993 in Atwerp, Belgium
  • He began his youth career at Repel Boom before spells at KFC Wintam and Lierse
  • Anderlecht was Lukaku's first club as a senior player in 2009
  • After three years at the Belgian club, Lukaku was sold to Chelsea
  • Lukaku struggled to break into Jose Mourinho's first team and was loaned to West Brom in 2012
  • A loan spell at Everton followed before being sold for a club record
  • Lukaku has scored 110 goals in 53 appearances for the Toffees

But Costa is refusing to make a big-money move to China and instead wants a return to Atletico Madrid when their transfer ban is lifted in January.

And Rooney's move back to Everton could pave the way for United to make a world-record move for Lukaku.

Roo said yes to the deal after a summer break when he discussed his future with wife Coleen and other family members.

There was no offer from the MLS and England’s 53-goal record scorer did not want to uproot his family to China.

Everton was always his preferred option.

Ronald Koeman has been spending the expected Lukaku cash, bringing in five players already this summer, including keeper Jordan Pickford, defender Michael Keane and midfielder Davy Klaassen.
