And perhaps most tantalisingly of all, he captioned the snap: "See you soon."

That of course sent his 430,000 followers into overdrive.

One wrote: "That means he will join Manchester City."

Another put: "Welcome to Man City."

A fellow user put: "Mendy. Welcome to Manchester City."

And even Mendy's current club have made it easy for him to complete a move to Pep Guardiola's side.

The Ligue 1 champions last week signed Feyenoord defender Terence Kongolo in a £13.1million deal.

That was big news for City chiefs, who know that Mendy had made it clear he wanted a move.

Mendy is set to become the second player this summer to swap the French club for City after Bernardo Silva's £43.6m move in May.

Leonardo Jardim’s side dethroned Paris Saint-Germain of the Ligue 1 title last season, and progressed to the Champions League semi-finals where they were knocked out by Juventus.

The likes of Mendy, Kylian Mbappe, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Fabinho and Thomas Lemar have all attracted huge attention from Europe’s top clubs.
