And he has thrown his future into massive doubt and says leaving the club is now a serious option.

He said: “It is an option to be honest with you.

“I’m here in pre-season, I wanted to travel. Some people asked me if I am going to travel or not and of course, I am Arsenal player and for the moment I am here so I just want to prepare well for the season and we will see later.”

Speaking at the Puma launch of Arsenal new third kit, Giroud appeared resigned to leaving the club.

“I’ll try to prepare well for the season, that is the most important thing for me.”

The 30-year-old arrived from Montpellier in 2012 and regardless of his future, his ‘scorpion’ goal against Crystal Palace last season will be an iconic Arsenal moment.

He said: “I really enjoyed all my time at the Arsenal and I scored a few nice goals but always like to speak about the team, the team spirit and the team work.

“I remember another goal we scored against Norwich at home and it was more like a collective goal with Jack scoring and Santi Cazorla’s one-touch ball.

“It was very nice when Jack finished the good team work and that is the Arsenal way we play.”

But when asked which was better, he added: “Maybe the scorpion kick!”
