Chicharito’s representatives have spoken to the Hammers over the 29-year-old returning to the Premier League two years after leaving Manchester United.
The Little Pea is set for a whopping £145,000-a-week deal to lead the attack for Slaven Bilic.
He has scored 39 goals in two seasons with Bayer and enjoyed a loan spell at Real Madrid before that.
Newly appointed Leverkusen coach Heiko Herrlich said: “I think a club like Bayer Leverkusen will never find themselves depending on just one player.
“Chicharito has given great performances in his two years here, but so have many others. You can only achieve success as a team.
“Ultimately it’s important that the players that you have available identify 100 per cent with the club. Things will soon be clear - then we'll see more.”

Chelsea have also voiced their interest in the 29-year-old as Antonio Conte also looks to bolster his frontline ahead of the new campaign.
According to Mexican newspaper , the Mexico international is set to make a decision between joining Chelsea and West Ham.
Slaven Bilic has voiced his interest in an array of strikers, including Olivier Giroud and Kelechi Iheanacho.
The Hammers boss has been unsuccessful in his pursuits - leaving the focus entirely on the Mexican goalscorer.
A move to the London Stadium for the Mexican goalscorer would make him the Hammers' highest-paid player.
