Arsenal should demand Sergio Aguero in sensational swap deal with Manchester City for Alexis Sanchez, claims Paul Merson
Merson thinks Arsenal should go on the offensive and demand the Argentinian hitman should move to the Emirates to replace wantaway Sanchez
PAUL MERSON has called on Arsenal to allow Manchester City to sign Alexis Sanchez - If Sergio Aguero moved to the Emirates.
Sanchez finally admitted this week the he could be leaving the Gunners claiming he wants to play in the Champions League next season as oppose to the Europa League the North Londoners will take part in.
Manchester City are keen to land the 28-year-old who has been given the chance all summer to tell the Gunners faithful he is going nowhere.
Aguero who has scored 169 goals in just 253 matches for the club looked like he could be on his way out of Manchester this summer.
And despite 'serious and strong' interest from Chelsea, City top brass insists he is not for sale.
That has not happened and Sanchez has just a year left on his contract with no indication he wants to extend his stay in London despite the offer of a lucrative new deal.
Merson who spent 15 years at Highbury and one year under Arsene Wenger believes his old boss will struggle to replace the Chilean forward but Aguero would more than fill the void.
Merson told : “I don’t think Arsenal can replace Sanchez can they?”
“He gets 30 of their goals - If someone doesn’t want to be at the club, you have to move on."

Merson added: “Arsenal are a big club and you don’t want players who don’t want to be there.
“He’s a good player and If I were Arsenal I’d be ringing up Man City saying ‘Give us Aguero and you can have Sanchez.’
Merson, 49, is concerned his old club could fail to qualify for the Champions League next season and fall even further behind the big boys if the former Barcelona star exits the Emirates this summer.
He added: “Arsenal need to be in the top four.
“I know they’re not going to win it but if you’re in it you’re going to be playing bigger games and at the moment you’re taking away 20-dd goals and 10 or 11 assists, and he’s a handful.”
Arsenal have placated some of the fans with the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon but the departure of last season’s top scorer would be a huge blow to Wenger.
