Boss Tony Pulis out in Hong Kong preparing his troops for the Premier League Asia Trophy is after a specialist left-back this season and has identified Gibbs as the best option.

Chris Brunt, Jonny Evans, Allan Nyom and James McClean all had a crack at filling in at full-back last season as the West Midlands side finished 10th in the Premier League.

Gibbs has struggled for games and made just eight Premier League starts last season.

The Academy product who made his Arsenal debut 10 years ago will drop to third choice left back following the arrival of Sead Kolisinac with Nacho Monreal preferred ahead of him.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will look to trim the squad where he can after breaking the clubs transfer record to land Alexandre Lacazette this summer.

Arsenal are open to offers and had valued the 27-year-old at £15m, so the Baggies will be encouraged a deal can be struck for Gibbs before the opening game of the season against Bournemouth at the Hawthorns.

West Brom have made two additions to the squad this summer – Jay Rodriguez has arrived from Southampton and Zhang Yuning from Vitesse but the youngster has gone straight out on loan to Werder Bremen.

Meanwhile Jack Wilshere could be leaving again with Crystal Palace keen to take the midfielder on loan.

The 25-year-old has a year left on his contract spent last season on-loan at Bournemouth, but his time at the Vitality stadium was cut short through injury.

Keeper Wojciech Szczesny, Lucas Perez, Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs have all not travelled on their pre-season tour and will be allowed to leave.
