MANCHESTER CITY paid out a staggering £18.3million to injured players last season, more than any other Premier League club, a survey has revealed.
The study carried out by insurance broker and risk consultant JLT Speciality, found league clubs paid £177m to injured players during 2016/17, that's £20m up on the previous year.
Skipper Vincent Kompany reportedly earns around £150,000-a-week, has endured a nightmare run of injuries in recent years and was crocked for 255 days of the season.
Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, Bacary Sagna, Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus were also on the treatment table at times last season.
While City suffered just 30 injuries last season, one of the shortest injury lists in the top flight, on average each injury has cost the club £611,204 who finished third in the league.
Relegated Sunderland were top of the crock with 58 injuries last season, with Black Cats boss David Moyes missing at least three players for every game.
Champions Chelsea suffered the least amount of injuries, which some would find surprising as Antonio Conte rarely rotated his League starting line-up.
The Blues medical staff by comparison with their top flight colleagues had a quiet season with just 21 injuries at a cost of £6.63m in salaries.
That suggests a strong link between player fitness and Premier League points.
The big salaries shelled out by the two Manchester clubs explains their place at the top of the pile.
West Ham were fourth with £13.7m coughed up for 50 injuries that gave Hammers boss Slaven Bilic a selection headache.
Arsenal who have been criticised for the number of injuries under Arsene Wenger suffered 51 injuries costing £16.62m.
The gulf in pay is highlighted by Bournemouth who suffered 37 injuries at a cost of £3.2m, on average £520,000 less than at the Etihad.
