Chelsea fans fume as Alvaro Morata starts on left wing against Inter Milan

Blues supporters vent their fury on Twitter as club-record £65m signing makes his first start out of position

CHELSEA fans took to Twitter to vent their dismay as Antonio Conte gave club-record signing Alvaro Morata his first start - on the left wing.

But Manchester United fans were loving seeing their one-time target played out of position... with one even labelling him the "Spanish Danny Welbeck".

The £65million signing from Real Madrid was expected to be a direct replacement for Diego Costa, who has been told he is no longer wanted at Chelsea, as the Blues' main striker.

But he was deployed on the left on his full debut, with Michy Batshuayi playing through the centre, against Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly in Singapore on Saturday.

And some fans were confused...

Morata has been used on the left wing before - indeed Jose Mourinho made him play there, in the belief that it would improve him as a player, when he was in charge of the young Spaniard at Real.

But not all Twitter users have faith in the wisdom of football managers...
